Okay I'm guilty as charged, because my lovely Land Rover LR3 obviously doesn't fall into Hybrids and runs 15.7 MPG. I know it sucks, and yes, its sucks a lot of gas. It's even more bad that I drive about 300-400 miles a week and pump gas at least once or twice a week. That's $120 a week.
Anyways, my teacher today had asked us SUV owners to try to drive between 60-70 mph today on the freeway going home and see if we can raise our MPG (Miles Per Gallon). So I took up the challenge and AMAZING!
I drove 30miles back home and my MPG went from 15.7 to 19.9. NO kidding... the picture is on the right. I mean having my MPG at 15.7 only gives me 314 miles in one full tank. But having 19.9 mpg can give me 398 miles that's 84 more miles a week. That's 4,368 more miles a year. And if I drove, say 400 miles a week... I would be saving $832 a year if I just drove between 60-70 mph and kept my MPG at 19.9.-----------------------------------------------
How I calculated everything:
How I calculated everything:
AT 15.7 mpg x 20 gallons (Full tank) = 314 miles
NOW it's $3.19/gallon of gas x 20 gallons = $64
1 mile x $64/ 314 miles = I'm paying ~ $0.20/mile
Driving 400 miles a week x 52 weeks in a year = 20,800 miles a year
20,800 miles a year x $0.20/mile = $4,160 A year on GAS!!
AT 19.9 mpg x 20 gallons (Full tank) = 398 miles
NOW it's $3.19/gallon of gas x 20 gallons = $64
1 mile x $64/ 398 miles = I'm paying ~ $0.16/mile
Driving 400 miles a week x 52 weeks in a year = 20,800 miles a year
20,800 miles a year x $0.16/mile = $3,328 A year on GAS!!
$4,160 (at 15.7mpg) - $3,328 (at 19.9mpg) = savings of $832/ year
I mean no doubt, driving between 60-70mph was really slow (I am used to driving between 75-85mph.) I was driving so slow, that I can literally count the lines that separate the different lanes; even count the trees, cows, houses, and annoyed cars that I passed or passed me. But imagine when the world is different to where we don't even have trees to count, because we've used all the trees to build with or use; no cows to count, because we've consumed them all or they died from drought; houses practically so close to each other due to over population and over development where we don't have a slight patch of grass; and cars lined up butt to butt in traffic causing more smog and congestion, where we would have to walk around in a mask hardly able to breathe.
Like in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop to look around once in a while you could miss it." If we keep ignoring our world, it can go away with a blink of an eye and then what would our children have??

So lesson learned. I think that's what's wrong with all of us. We all just live in this fast life, with trying to get from point A to point B as fast as we can that we don't realize that we just end up wasting all this money! Then being impatient to talk to anyone in real life to where we have to text, email, leave messages, facebook people just so we can get people's attention and answers faster. Eat fast food, want fast service, faster computers, faster downloads, fast everything!! What happened to everyone's patience?? Is this why everyone is always soOo stressed out? Because we EXPECT to have everything right then and there, to where if we don't we get all upset and mad!! Uh, that's another blog subject I guess...
